Why do people tell you AFTER you lose weight that you WERE fat?

Because they don't have the balls to do it while you ARE fat.

Maybe they figure you can handle it better now. Some plp are very blunt and just don't understand. I would only say--you look great.

Perhaps they were trying to spare your feelings by not saying it when you were. But, after losing weight...DUH! I know I was fat! I recently lost 80 lbs on Weight Watchers. Fortunately, I didn't have anyone tell me I was far AFTER losing it. BUt, I know people who have had that happen. As if we don't know!!

Because when you are fat, you know it. So, mentioning it is not only rude, it is redundant. After the fat is reduced, to mention it is thought to be a compliment and positively reinforcing.

People like to have one up on others. When they say, "you were fat", they are inflating their own egos by implying that they never were fat. This is just an other example of the down side of human nature where people target the overweight person as being someone undesirable. They build themselves up by putting others down. They should keep their mouths shut and pay closer attention to their own misgivings.
