It varies. Could be that the calipers or rotors weren't installed correctly (improperly tightened, missaligned). Depending on your brakes, it could just be wearing in too. If the sound doesn't start to decrease after about 20+ stops, take it back.
Not at all, get it checked. I had the same problem, turned out to be something with the rotors.
My brother is a mechanic who does alot of brake jobs. He says for the job to be done right, the rotors or the drums should be turned. (ground and smoothed) The might just need a little time to seat in.
Some mechanics say that that is normal. According to them it takes a short time for the pads to brake in.
I would say for maybe the first 10-15mins of driving. After that any sounds should go away. If they persist over 3hrs after the repair work, get it checked out.
