  • I think it's 8 years in all to be a full fledged doctor.
  • That's a fantastic goal! In College and Medical School you will basically have to take every science course imaginable, from the Beginner's to the Advanced Levels.
  • Take a lot of math, biology, chemistry. When I was in college a lot of the medical students took physics.
  • Ok.. What kind of doctor? Do you want to work with kids or work in a lab? Do you want to get into your field of choice as fast as possible or are you willing to spend another 8 years in school (with no social life)? Most professional doctors will spend 4 years in college, 4 years in medical school and 2 years as an intern. But it really all depends on what you want to do. As for a high school student.. take all the biology, chemistry and maybe physics course you can get your hands on. Have fun it was too much for me.. I switched to accounting :P
  • Your best bet is to check with your guidance counselor about what classes to take. Definitely take all the science and math you can get, particularly biology. AP classes are an advantage, if you can get them. After that, you'll have to go to college. A pre-med course is a good bet, but you can also go biology safely, specially if you think you might want to do something other than be a doctor at all. Always talk to your academic adviser and keep him/her updated on your life goals and plans. Then comes medical school. Getting into medical school is very competitive, specially for good schools. Residency is important, and then you actually have to get a job and pay off all those loans!
  • Make your HLs Bio and Chem, don't worry too much about physics. Rock undergrad, no matter where you go (decent school, but you don't have to be a top 20 school), rock the MCAT (warning: long ass test), and make sure you befriend some science teachers and do some research starting your 2nd year in University. Those are the only tricks you need to get into a top 10 grad school. Good luck, med school is long and filled with gunners.
  • hey i'm in highschool too and plan on going to med school to become a doctor as well. so here is my advice to u :D u dont have to be in IB, in fact u dont need to take physics even but here is what u can do, kay here we go: *Make sure u get good grades and do ur best in classes.. *start researching what kind of medical field u want to go in to and what major u're interested in.... for example i wanto to be in biochem... so i'm taking biology and chemistry... * challenge urself and try to take AP classes...especially in science * take ur sat's and at least two sat subject tests... now those are for acedemics... good medical school or even udergrad colleges like a well rounded student... so be involved, do community service and enjoy ur highschool years in a productive way :) being a doctor will be challenging but if we set our minds we can do it... now like someone mentioned before talk to ur counceler, they can help u the most... lol sorry for the loooooong answer, but either way good luck!! :D hope my advice helps and hope u reach ur goal!
  • Take physics. Most med school require that you take it in college so you might as well have a background in it ahead of time.
  • Don't worry too much about what to take in highschool, as long as you get decent enough grades and test scores to get into a good college. Once you get into college, don't major in what they market as "premed." Premed majors are a dime a dozen these days. Instead, major in biochem or microbiology, those are in high demand in medical schools. After that, go to med school.
  • You definitely don't need to be in IB. I would focus on biology and chemistry, because you'll be taking a lot more of those as an undergrad. The most important thing right now is probably your GPA. Good luck!
  • my goal is to be a doctor beacuse i really like to be a doctor i would like to be a doctor for kids
