Possum is greasy and grainy, and not very tasty. Squirrel is delicious; rabbit is pretty good too. That's bunny rabbit, not jackrabbit (which isn't rabbit at all but hare).
Never had raccoon.
Yes, I have heard of it, especially in the south, but how depressing to get a possum as a wedding gift. (Are you sure it wasn't just PLAYING dead?)
some southern restaurants sell 'road-kill' stew. they don't really use road-kill, but they will use possum or armadillo.
when there is a chili cook off in the area, you can always find at least one of these in someones chili. i tried armadillo chili once. tasted like chili.
Granny Clampett used to cook possum.
Yes. I have some relatives that eat 'coons and possum. It's not their first choice for food, but they eat it.
ppl eat that stuff around here - possum is greasy
Sure, even have had some. A neighbor of mine used to use raccoon in his Mexican food. They loved raccoon burritos. Possum make s a great meat pie as does squirrel.

You're reading Have you ever heard of eating possum or raccoon? (In the historical novel "Andersonville", a backwoods Southerner brings a dead possum as a wedding gift.)

Armadillo is about the same as possum, with a gamier flavour (gamier? more gamey? gamy?)
