Need to go to a funeral and the only suit I have is dark brown. Would a black shirt look ok with it? How about a black tie too, or is that going over the top?

sounds Kinda odd .. im trying to picture it together.. just sounds weird.. just wear the dark brown suite an maybe a dark colored shirt.an im sorry for your loss

I'm sorry for your loss. I know it's a funeral & black is the norm but I wouldn't wear a black shirt under a brown suit. How about wearing a cream or pale coloured shirt with the black tie? Another alternative is to borrow or hire a suit?

I'm sorry to hear you have experienced a loss. From what I understand, only the people officiating (pall bearers) have to wear all black. Other mourners can wear dark and muted colors. I would suggest a dark blue shirt and tie, if you have any.

Wear the dark brown suit but where a shirt that goes with brown like a cream colour, the black shirt is overkill. At my brother in laws funeral it was in summer the men wore dark trousers and white shirts. You don't have to wear black just dress respectfully.

Black shirt with brown suit wouldn't look right. A light coloured shirt is needed, if you haven't got one then borrow from a friend as you will have less problems with this than hoping someones suit will fit you. My condolences are also sent to you

your tie should match your sports coat, brown on black looks better than black on brown it could work , your probably better off with out the tie , keep it simple brown slacks brown coat brown belt and shoes black casual shirt

I think it's more important that you be there than what you wear. In a few weeks no one will remember what you had on, but they'll remember if you were there. I think it's admirable that you're concerned about what to wear. How one is dressed is a sign of respect where ever you go. My condolences.

I've always worn a tie at funerals. It's not over the top. People will appreciate the effort to look smart.
