Arial looks great on OS X. However, my Windows test-machine renders it quite ugly. What sans-serif web-safe font do you recommend?

This site might help you. It has comparisons of the most common fonts available on PCs and Macs along with some pages of screen shots so you can get an idea of the best one to use. With all of these though, at a reasonable pitch they look OK but if you get too small then some will cause problems. http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html
