We finally talked the folks into going into an assisted living, but before they moved we found out we can't afford it. What can we do?

You put the horse before the cart! What it is THEY want? and if you can't afford assisted living then you live with them... or they with you. Old parents once gave up their peace and home to you 'kids' so now it is your turn. Old people shouldn't be thought of as a nuisance, to be put out of sight so someone else cares for them till they die. Many fiends I know and myself included made adjustments to our lives so we could rightfully care for our parents. Sorry if I sound dogmatic on the subject, I once owned a care home and was saddened by the neglect from family some old people endured, some only turned up when called to tell them their parent had died.
