Stop no matter what. I did hit a cat once, at night, and it was awful.

I managed to get a box and towel from the house near where I hit it. I called my vet in on an emergency and rushed the cat in.

It was badly hurt and had to be put down. I felt terrible, but I did everything I could do and I don't regret the steps I took to try to save it.

It was the right thing to do.

    I'd stop no matter what.
I hit a cat and it was still alive and unconscious. I immediately took it to the emergency vet. They worked on him, sewed him up and kept him overnight. I paid the vet bill and kept him a few days until he was better and then went and found his owners and gave him back after I was sure he was going to be OK.
    I felt terrible about it.

I would feel very bad, but wouldn't stop. My philosophy - if you don't want your kid out in the road, keep it inside.

    Oh wait, you said Cats!

I'd stop and do something to help after all. Cats are usually beloved by someone.

    Feel bad for a few miles,then rationalize it,and let it pass,sorry kitty,it was just your time,,I've hit coons,squirrels,birds,deer,even a dog(although I did stop for the dog,to no avail)as drivers,we will,at some point,have this happen,we go faster than they do,,survival of the fittest.

it's not illegal to kill cats. it will depend on how late i am... believe me, i'm not cruel to animals, but i don't dote on them either. i respect them same as they respect me, but i would never treat them better than i would treat humans. call me cruel, but i am not going to spend a whole day crying because i killed a cat accidentaly. obviously, given the choice, i would never kill an animal unnecessarily, but i wouldn't worry too much if it was an accident! accidents happen unfortunately!

Definitely stop and take it to the vets. Even if it was already dead, it may have an identity chip in or something. Poor thing!

If I hit a cat I would stop.
If I hit anything I would stop and I would feel terrible afterwards.
Its just something thats programmed into me I hate hurting any living thing.

I'm always careful not to hit a cat.I always stop for them to pass by,and if they hesitate,I honk and they'll pass the street.
But If I accidentally hit one,I would stop for sure, but not if I'm driving in a highway...

My cat Jess was hit by a car and instantly killed when I was 11 so obviously, those people who freely admit that they would not stop sicken me. Even though it is just a cat, to the owner the cat would be a member of the family.
To answer the question, I would stop no matter what.

It depends on where I was going, and what time I had to be there. I would feel bad...I have felt bad anytime I've ever hit anything.

I know I'll get DRed but I'm being completely honest: I'd keep driving if I were going at speeds that would certainly kill it on the spot, and I wouldn't think too long about it; I'd feel sorry for the owner(s) if it had one/any.

Stop, see if there's anything I can do. Even if it's own up to the owners of the cat. Then go on and forget about it.

I just hit a cat today...It ran out infront of me I tried to swerve but it ran right into my right front tire. I pulled over and put my 4ways on and another guy pulled over and he helped me carry it off the street and put it on the edge of a front yard. Its was badly hurt and I was in tears. I called the Humane Society and told them where the cat was and about an hour later I drove by and they had picked up the cat. I felt so bad. Gina

I just lost my cat last evening to this, I went looking for her this morning and found her run over. She was always home by 2 am and we just knew something had happened. For those people who say "keep the cat in the house", that is always dependent on the cat. This cat was highly intelligent and explored everything, there was no way to stop her from rushing the door any time of day. But she always came home and gave us maximum love. All I can tell the people who claim cats are pests, I would tell you to have some respect for the people who love that animal. I am crushed, she will be missed more than I can say.

I've just hit a cat on the road, I was so panic, my mind all empty. I continue driving, immediately I drove back to the place where the cat got hit, I couldn't find the cat. I was so regret that I never stop immediately to see if I can do anything. Little cat, I'm so sorry to you, I feel really bad, I don't know if you are still alive, hurt, need a vet or died. All out there, please stop and rescue a life.

just a couple of minutes ago i hit a cat that seemed to come out of nowhere! i felt the "thump" under my car and when i looked it my rear view mirror the cat was still moving! i kinda panicked and kept on driving. when i drove back through the same street, i saw the cat laying dead on the side of the road. NOW I FEEL HORRIBLE! i regret not stopping to help the poor thing! I APOLIGIZE TO THE CATS OWNERS, TO GOD, AND ESPECIALLY TO THE POOR CAT! IM AM SO SORRY! I WOULD HAVE NEVER WANTED THIS TO HAPPEN. I KNOW NEITHER THE OF US WERE AT FAULT, WE JUST HAPPENED TO BE AT THE WRONG PLACE AT THE WRONG TIME! MY CONSCIENCE IS KILLING ME! I DONT KNOW HOW IM GONNA LIVE WITH MYSELF! AGAIN I AM SO SORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I just ran over a cat. The owner was outside, and the cat ran right out in front of me. I feel awful, it was dying, and spitting up blood. No vets within 30 miles, and she said it was her fault because she shouldn't have let the cat out. Neither of us knew what to do, so I told her I would call the Marshal. I came home and called him, he said he would try to figure something out. IDK if I should have done more, but I feel awful. I love animals and I have 2 cats of my own. =(
