What are "indie" films?

    An "Indie" is just an independent film – as in backed by some person or organization other than the big movie production houses (ie Paramount, Disney, Fox, etc)

    Used to be, that meant Johnny Movie Fan would get together with some friends to write, direct, edit, etc an entire movie… usually on a very low to no budget… that’s how Kevin Smith and others, got started

    Nowadays, the Indie film seems to have garnered enough success stories to attract big names in Hollywood to doing the same sorts of things on a much grander scale than the average fan could do… and, still, without the backing of the major studios; though quite a few still have *very* nice distribution contacts to get their movies seen by enough people to make it fiscally viable.
