First, I assume you mean it requires 'ether'? Which should never be used to start a vehicle? And second, it has new 'plugs'? Run a bottle of fuel system treatment (the $40/bottle stuff) through your truck first. This will take off SOME of the buildup (don't expect miracles) and give your truck a better chance. I suspect your valves may be gummed up which would make it difficult for fuel and air to enter & leave the cylinder. Your carburetor may also need tuning since it sounds like it may be starting the truck lean, which is just going to complicate matters. I would then take your truck in for a full tune up since due to its age I would not be surprised if things need cleaning, replacement, repair, adjustment, etc. You may also want to replace the fuel filter as a dirty filter restricts the flow of fuel to the engine. Once again due to its age it is probably a bit dirty. The good thing about old trucks like yours is parts are normally cheap and easy to find, and repairs are easy to do. So, all of this work shouldn't cost much. Hope this helps, Good luck

in addition, you could have cloogged up carb. bought a used f-150 and whatever fuel had been used in it had too much parifin (wax) content. it had almost completely clogged the carp shut.
