Is it true that pregnant women get cravings for strange foods or food combinations or is this a myth?

It's absolutely true. I haven't craved any strange combinations... but I have felt cravings for certain foods: Lemon Curd, Hummus... and aversions to others: meat, cheese... There are really strange circumstances (usually in undernourished women) where a woman will crave such things as Laundry detergent powder or charcoal... this is usually a sign of malnourishment, and needs immediate medical attention.

My wife craved cornflakes for one child with braised steak. I still believe she is from another planet.

Very true, although my wife, when she was pregnant with our first kid, did not crave for anything strange. What was strange, though, was that a particular person had to be the one to go out and buy whatever she was craving for. Sometimes it would be me but most of the time it was her mother.

Yes its true I have known one woman eat raw sausages another Coal and myself thank goodness only had a liking to lots of Lucozade with my first child and with my second it was Muscle's ( shell fish ) with salt and vinegar

My friend had some very strange cravings, including coal and eating hot water bottles (seriously) and sucking on sponges! Some not so unususl ones were eating extra smooth peanut butter staraight out the jar and pureed apples

I've had 4 daughters, and I never had strange cravings or ate any unusual food combinations. I did love chocolate chip cheese cake (from the Cheesecake Factory in Baltimore MD) and my hubby had to make the drive there a few times. Luckily he got smart after the 3rd time and got their catelog so that he could order the cheesecakes and have them shipped fedex. My friends who have been pregnant never had odd cravings either. They mostly enjoyed milkshakes or Dairy Queen ice cream sundae's.

Yes they do get cravings. My wife did when she was pregnant. So did my mother, my sister and my aunts.

Yes its true and it isn't just strange foods either. I know a woman who craved the smell of new carpet, her husband used to have to go and buy carpet samples for her. I craved peanut butter and worstersauce crisp sandwiches yuk!!

Well, when my mum was pregnant with me, she was constantly craving Mars bars. So guess what my fave chocolate is? That's right!!! ;)

omg yesterday i was eating plain chips and dipping them in choc. pudding and the day befor that it was pickels and salt. you would think us pregos. would get really bad tummy aches.lol

i am 4 months pregnant thursday and i crave some weird food so yes it is true
