  • Could you provide a zip code, or more specific area? I know a lot about California history, but I don't remember a Dove, CA
  • Having lived in Atascadero almost all my life, I was curious about Dove. All I could think of was the Paloma area and I was right. Dove was on the south of Atascadero between Garden Farms and Atascadero between Santa Barbara Road and El Camino Real. It got it's name because of the Dove Cemetary and the Dove Station Post office. It was across El Camino from where Paloma (Dove in Spanish) Creek Park is now. I found this PDF with the history of Dove, which appears to have never been a township at all. http://www.atascadero.org/files/CD/SRI_Dove_Creek_draft.pdf I would recommend contacting the Atascadero Historical Society for doccumentation. Although the museum was in the old dome building, they may have gotten all the papers out after the earthquake.
  • It wasn't a town, but just a mail drop, post office and a cemetery. It was called Dove Station. I lived in that part of California for over 30 years and I remember articles in the paper about that place and had a friend who was really into cemeteries so we went all over the county exploring and finding little bits of history. There isn't anything left of Dove Station if I recall correctly. There is a park called Paloma Creek and the cemetery on the top of a little hill. Not much to see. Were you looking for family records or names, that sort of thing? The Atascadero News or the Trib (the county newspaper) did run articles about the place in years past. They might be a good source of info for you.
