They may be fertilized...meaning that you might get a little more than you bargained for when you break 'em open.

I'm sure there are peoples and tribes out there that do eat them and enjoy them but for Westerners, you would never know how long the egg had been there and whether a chick had started to form or not, or even sat out at high temperatures and gotten rotten.
