I'm sorry, I don't have a helpful answer but was curious about why you won't just buy a Foreman grill?

I've been using a GE for 3 years and it's been very good to us. Even heating, grease drip, removable stick-free plates. About the same size as a regular Foreman grill It was a gift, but I'm pretty sure it was about $30.
George foreman does a grill with removable plates its a new one it has dishwasher safe removable plates, or iare you looking for a cheaper version as you dont actually state in your question

The best alternative with a removable plate is the Hamilton Beach Grill. I am an pheane for cooking supplies and my baker's rack runs over with Hamilton Beach stuff....
