I have always covered my birds at night. For at least 10 hours. That is what the breeder instructed me to do. They get more sleep that way.
-
I believe it settles them down and allows them to get a good nights rest without being interupted by any lights that might be on or get turned on. We had 2 parakeets when I was little and we always covered the cage at night.

If you want your own peaceful evening, and a better-behaved bird throughout the following day, it is highly recommended to cover the cage.

Yes cover cage at night........gives warmth and secure feeling

The bird is much more comfortable in its surroundings when it is covered at night, also warmer and secure. It will sleep better and since it will stay quieter , So will you.
-
Yeah , cover the bird. It'll give him / her a stress free environment. I didn't cover my avatar one night and they're so paratnoid now.
-
Only if the room is noisy and well lit for many hours at night, or if it's cold and drafty. Parrot type birds need a lot of sleep and sleep better if it's dark and quiet. But if the room where it's kept is quiet, you don't need to do this.

Parakeets need 10-12 hrs of sleep a day. I feel it is important to give them their privacy. I always cover the cage at night. My question is, is your parakeet an adult or baby? trained or..My bird is 6-8 months old or maybe older cuz she has a white forhead and white ring around her pupil which indicates she is now an adult, my problem is, she doesn't like to be touched. I am envious when I read that yours jumps on your finger and sits on your shoulder. What do you do or how long do you wait for your budgie to grow trust in you?
-
funny enough it ultimately depends on the bird. I have 1 that won't sleep unless the cage is covered. And the other freaks if i cover her at night. if your little one likes the cover and doesn't freak do cover at night. It is better for them.
-
I feel it is very important to cover their cage at nite it gives them privacy and warmth during the nite.
-
if you care about your bird, you will at least give it some stressfree time to rest, they like to feel secure and a cover is about the best way to ensure that at night
-
yes i had1.make sure 2 cover it every nite but always take the cover off in the morning also do noy play music 2 loud as birds suffer from heart attacks easily andthe music 2 much of a shock to them but yeh always cover the bird or it will not sleep.
-

-
i would, because you have to cover it so it won't make noises in the middle of the night and it will just chill lol
