Those two things are not mutually exclusive. I think what you meant to ask is, how much of his TV persona is fake, and how much is the "real" Stephen Colbert. The "Stephen Colbert" you see on his show is nearly 100% a fabricated character -- you are not getting to know the real man. It was truly interesting, the time I was in his studio audience, the contrast between the "real" Stephen when the tape was not rolling, versus the character he portrays. It's also interesting that the character he portrays happens to have the same name as the actor who plays him.

50/50. Now if you were to ask if he's sincere about his right wing views,I'd say no. It's a tongue-in-cheek poke at the Republicans. He is half talk show host and half comedian.

I think he is 100% comedian/entertainer, 100% talk show host and 100% intelligent, savvy and right-on-point humorist! Oh, that's 300% you say? That's o.k. I think he, along with Jon Stewart, are so much better, funnier, and give us more truthiness than any others..he deserves the additional brownie points! :)

Well after seeing his recent opening without the writers. I would say he's clearly 99.9% comedic genius, .1% entertainer. I had to justify the remaining percentage to give a complete picture. I don't think he'd mind. "I'm Amercian, And So Can You" Is the book that I recommend everyone take time to read.
