The laser mechanism and the transports cannot be locked on just about every DVD player made - certainly not on any Sony that I have seen. Such features are not required, because the players are stationary. If you plan to move the unit, pack it in the original shipping carton or, if that has been tossed out, put in in a sufficiently large box and pad it well with foam to cushion it. Treat the player with a reasonable amount of care and you will avoid damaging the transport.
