  • I just believe whats in my heart
  • Simply No. The Bible is "The Word of God" so believing in one without the other does not work.
  • I think as long as you have a "Higher Power" that's what counts.
  • Yes. It makes sense to me. The Bible actually says that a fool says in his heart there is no God, so I guess that's saying anyone who doesn't believe there's a God is a fool according to the Bible.
  • takes a little bit of a theolical stretch but i belive in the deity but nolt the book as the infallable given word or the institution as his home.
  • I'm Lutheran, for what ever that's worth to you. But I've come to believe that God loved us so much he gave his only son to die for us. What more do we want from him. I think that forgave everyone's sins past, present and future. Why do we pray for our safety and that of loved ones . . . health, etc., when eternal life is given us as the greatest gift. I'm not making myself very clear. Thanks for reading.
  • Sure. One doesn't have to believe in what other people say is "god". That IMO is the definition of spirituality. One doesn't have to believe in the formalized religions- they can believe whatever they wish. Besides, there are other religions that believe in "god" and Jesus, maybe not in the same ways we do, that don't read "THE bible". They still believe in god/a higher power, but necessarily the exact same as everyone else.
  • To man it might but to God it does not!
  • I’d say your question is somewhat valid, but it’s really not specific enough. Which Bible? (There’s tens of thousands of versions, many of which directly contradict each other.) Which church? (There’s tens of thousands of these, too—and that’s just those that claim to be Christian!—and they definitely contradict each other, or they wouldn’t be separate churches in the first place.) I believe in God the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost. I also believe that the Bible, as it was originally written by God’s prophets, is His word, and that it continues to be His word as far as any given version has been translated correctly. And finally, I believe that the Church that Jesus Christ personally established is indeed His Church. I think if you truly believe that Jesus of Nazareth is God’s Christ and the Savior of the world, it’s pretty tough to disbelieve the Bible and the Church as set forth in the preceding paragraph.
  • It makes perfect sense to me. You believe in God & his son not a book written by men
  • It is enough if you already believe in god. bible or chruch is only a medium that let u believe in him .
  • Absolutely no sense. If you dont believe in bible or the church, then you never had and would believe in God and Jesus.
  • 1) The following reflect my personal opinion. It is based on my knowledge, experience and observations. It does not expose a dogma that you have to follow. 2) Most Christian authorities from various religious schools affirm that it does not make sense to ignore the Bible and *their* particular Church. They will mostly consider other views as their own as not making sense, often as being heretical. 3) As far as only God is concerned, it makes very well sense, I think. Many people believe in some kind of God and are not interested in the Bible or in any kind of Church. You don't have to believe in the God described in the Bible. Depending on the passage of the Bible you study, you could also come to various conclusions as to how this God is like. Actually, you are free to believe what you like. You could also believe in God as it is presented in the Bible, but not take all of the Bible literally. 4) If we are talking about Jesus, it is a little more difficult, because the most of what we know about Jesus comes from the Bible. One possibility would be to keep what is said about Jesus in the Gospels, and you could eventually ignore the rest of the Bible - or, at least, not consider it as being so important. 5) The last possibility would be to only accept a vague idea of Jesus and God, as you could get it from living inside a Christian influenced environment. You could also acquire some kind of direct knowledge about them, as did many mystics before you. 6) "In theology, reason, as distinguished from faith, is the human critical faculty exercised upon religious truth whether by way of discovery or by way of explanation. Some commentators have claimed that Western civilization can be almost defined by its serious testing of the limits of tension between “unaided” reason and faith in "revealed" truths - figuratively summarised as Athens and Jerusalem, respectively. Leo Strauss spoke of a "Greater West" which included all areas under the influence of the tension between Greek rationalism and Abrahamic revelation, including the Muslim lands. He was particularly influenced by the great Muslim philosopher Al-Farabi. In order to consider to what extent Eastern philosophy might have partaken of these important tensions, it is perhaps best to consider whether dharma or tao may be equivalent to Nature (by which we mean physis in Greek). The limits within which reason may be used have been laid down differently in different churches and periods of thought: on the whole, modern religion tends to allow to reason a wide field, reserving, however, as the sphere of faith the ultimate (supernatural) truths of theology."
