  • I dont mean to not answer your question, however, I have not found the people working at the Rijksmuseum to be very nice, they might just escort you out of the building if you ask a question like that. However, I do find your quesion viable and I do wonder who the heck has to go through and turn off all those lights everynight... maybe its a collective switch and they all go off at one time?
  • In our Museum the lights are programmed to go off automatically 20 minutes after the galleries and floors are clear. Housekeeping has access to a computer panel that turns on the lights in various galleries for cleaning for 45 mins. If an event is taking place it is up to the Duty Enginner to program the lights to stay on for the duration of the event and following cleanup. Many years ago it was the duty of the Guard in that gallery to turn off the lights from a panel in a locked room.
