Do you really want to know my opinion? I think Catcher in the Rye is the worst book I have ever read in my life and I hope I will never have to touch it again.

don't be frustrated if you need to read a paragraph over more than once i did it but i loved the book in the end i had to read it for a class actually look for the symbolism but don't forget that you're reading a book and not discecting a dead animal. cuz you can lose good info that way too. read a chapter ask the questions read another analyze some more and my favorite : sticky notes, cuz once you're done w them you can take them out good luck i hope you like it

Oh God, that is one of the best books of all time! Don't listen to the phonies...this is a masterpiece, and very fun to read.

I'm gonna be honest, I've never personally read it, but I've had a few people tell me it was really good. Sorry it's not much, but at least it's something positive! :P

I had to read The Catcher in the Rye for one of my AP classes, and my step-mother picked it up and started reading it when I left the room--and promptly had a melt down. Which means that it's a good book, and you should read it. lol. But seriously? It's a very difficult book to read, because Holden is such a very conflicted young man; the book deals with innocence, or at least the loss of it, and what it means--and doesn't mean--to be an "adult". Holden is a delinquent, it's true--but he doesn't have a delinquent's spirit. He doesn't do "bad" things because he's a bad kid--he does them almost by default, because he's got so many backward beliefs about how to be "cool" and "grown-up". I thought it was a good book, but it's entirely understandable why others would think differently. The Catcher in the Rye is just one of those books that you either completely love or entirely despise.

One of my all-time favorites, even though it was assigned school reading when I was in high school. The complexity of the characters is really quite fascinating. Another great coming of age story.
