Generally speaking, no. But it does however depend on where you get your piercing and who does it. For things like ears, eyebrows, bellybuttons and such piercings, no one really uses any kind of painkiller. However for tongue and lip piercings and the like, certain piercing shops will rub an over-the-counter anesthetic on the area first (the kind you would use for a toothache). However, on another note, any *professional* piercing shop will not do any piercing if you are under the influence of drugs or alcohol - and that includes prescription painkillers. This is mainly to keep you from suing them over you wanting something done then that you will regret later, but also because some drugs/alcohol will thin the blood and make you bleed more heavily.

Pain is part of the tattooing and piercing experience. Sort of like a rite of passage where the tatt or the ring/post is the reward for going through it. Americans in general avoid pain, but pain is a part of life, so not avoiding it can only make a person stronger and more tolerant.

My buddy actually got his penis pierced after getting it numbed first. The piercing studio actually put some sort of liquid novocaine inside of a condom that he wore for approx 30 minutes.

Well when I had my Ears pierced, they put some sort of liquid which i thought was a numbing lotion because my ears fell kinda numb. Now i think it was just to clean the skin but you never know..
-
When I had my tongue pierced, they used aerosol Novocaine which worked very well. I felt nothing. But when they did my eyebrow there was nothing applied before hand. They don't always advertise the option. Sometimes you have to ask and they will let you know. It does, however, cost extra.

Just don't take any pain killer that's a blood thinner.
-
Do you take pain killers before you get your eyebrows waxed? It's that same sort of pain. It's uncomfortable, but not unbearable. The piercers I've gone to say that pain killers thin your blood and cause longer bleeding. Not a good idea. Just relax. If your tense it'll probably hurt more. It's supposed to be fun! It'll be over in a second. Try to turn your nervousness into excitement.

No, the piercer doesnt give you any, at least none that ive ever heard of. You could take them on your own, but make sure theyre not anticoagulants.
-
Maybe an ice cube to numb it a little bit, and thats it, atleast thats what they did in my case.
-
when i got piercings they used a liquid to numb the appropriate parts of the body, and i didn't feel anything. Is a bit tender when it wears off, but otherwise is fine.
-
pain is part of the performance. killing it defeats the purpose.

Painkillers in any form during a piercing is generally frowned upon by piercers because it thins your blood and to be completely honest, most piercings aren't painful enough to warrant having to take painkillers.
-
Most people take a Cerebral Cessation Agent. Just kidding

No- Its usually so quick you dont register the "break through". But I agree with Anonymous up there. Americans are whiners when it comes to pain- even the pain they choose to inflict on themselves.
