How do people who are paralyzed from the waist down do things? How would you shower/go to the bathroom? Would it be possible to use your arm strength and move yourself from the wheel chair to the toliet/shower? What about changing your clothes?

My friends dad in high school was hit by a drunk driver so he ended up as a paraplegic. He had a nurse come over and help him with showers, changing clothes and so forth. As for the toilet, he had to be stimulated to poo and he peed in a bag (don't know what the bag is called heh). He was still pretty self suficient though.

My grandfather is 72 years old and a paraplegic. He does all of the above by himself still! Generally paras do build upper body strength in order to take care of themselves.
