  • ... a mix of heat and your favourite organic solvent ... I use scalding hot soapy water ... steam blasting also works well.
  • The trick is to dissolve the wax without tarnishing the brass. I would dilute some hydrogen peroxide with warm water and apply it to the wax carefully using cotton swabs. I would increase the warmth and intensity of the solution gradually and remove the wax quickly with tweezers as soon as the wax dissolves.
  • First clean the candlesticks so there is no more dirt on it, then just burn it off. Because you washed the candlesticks, there will be no residue on them containing carbon to leave behind a black soot that normally happens when fire touches a metal.
