What if the US got rid of the (basically) 2 party system and didn't label candidates, forcing people to vote for who they liked on issues and not for a label?

George Washington stated in his farewell speach for America to avoid 2 things: Foreign affairs and political parties. It only took a year for us to ignore both of those suggestions, and although I dont agree with how both parties mudsling more than they govern, we probably wouldnt be where we are today if it werent for something theyre doing. Also, some people believe that it was the forming of two parties that prevented us from falling prey to tyrany or communism as other countries have.

There are many election reform acitvists who want to do exactly this. The only problem is that people tend to group together with others that they feel are like-minded. Some form of party system would eventually arise again. Heck, I would be happy if we could just do away with the electoral college and have a majority vote.

That wouldn't work because people would still group together by themselves.. if they didn't label themselves the media would do it for them.
