YES! I had the same exact car 2 years ago. Same exact thing kept happening, so I brought it to my mechanic and something was wrong with the intake valve and the transmission. To fix it, it would have been really expensive. I just dealt with it until my sister totalled the car. Hah.

It's probably just a sensor that's damaged or bad. A diagnostic might help. On a 2005 the intake should not be damaged or bad although it has the signs of a bad one. Have you disconnect the battery for any reason lately? This can reset things and cause some electrical parts to not work correctly. Most likely a angle sensor or a IAC valve will be your problem on any type of Pontiac GT.

Ihad something similar with a Olds Calais. It would not happen all the time, only intermittently, then after a period of time it got worse (years). No mechanic could figure it out. One place suggested a valve job. (thank God, I didn't listen to them). It turned out to be some sort of emission control filter, that was on the top of the engine. Cost about $300 to fix.
