Anti-depressants...xanax for example..are legal when you have a prescription. However, many of these drugs are taken socially...thats when they become illegal..when you take them without a prescription.

I don't think there are any illegal anti-depressants as long as you have a prescription from a doctor and use them accordingly.

For St. John's wort? You can buy it anywhere in the states and we're usually the cautious ones. Well, it'll have to be sunlight and exercise then.

If you are uncomfortable telling your doctor you are feeling a need for an antidepressant, then A: Find a new doctor, or B: Tell him or her you want to quit smoking and have them prescribe Zyban. Many local health departments pay for it if money is a problem. Zyban is also prescribed as an antidepressant under the name of Welbutrin. I took the free Zyban (prescribed for only ninety days) and never quit smoking, but felt better in general. And was more tolerant of my teenage daughter. So I had my doctor put me on Welbutrin.
