  • I've been looking at Velodyne, Bag End, Polk, and JBL. But it's hard to know which is the clearest, most accurate sound.
  • Likely just look for the lowest distortion at the spl and low point your interested in. (But then most HiFi companies don't even list their detailed specs.:>) Room resonance effects are goin to be the huge wild card in actual frequency response. Here's a goog place to go. http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php?sid=d394f84c22032a7a13bf2ab53b6ef112
  • For accuracy and true bass extension, TBI subwoofers are second to none, they are the only subs that can blend seemlessly with ribbon/planar speakers and are almost immune to room resonace because of the unique way in which the low frequencies are produced, they are also less expensive than those so called "high end" subs, and of course they go lower....
  • jl audio w7. go to their website. check the frequency response on that monster. hope you got a fat wallet
  • Paradigm "Signature Servo" is the one Sub that has been able to defeat Velodyne as the king. I've heard the Signature and it can dip in to Subsonic frequencies. http://paradigm.com/en/reference/subwoofers-signature-series-2-5-17.paradigm Paradigm Also offers a newer model that is said to be even better than the Signature Servo, they are calling it the SUB 25 and it's likely that nothing will be able to match it's Ferrai F1 like performance. It's audio engineering at it's finest. http://www.engadgethd.com/2008/12/09/paradigms-reference-signature-sub-25-subwoofer-ships-dives-dee/ Here's a disclaimer from Paradigm which really says something: Due to the incredibly high power and tremendous output the SUB 25's grille is non-removable
  • I am a big fan of Bob Carver... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Carver And I don't think you could go wrong with his Sunfire subwoofers. http://www.sunfire.com/TrueSubwooferEQSigPR.htm
  • It's a smaller company, but at the time I purchased my Hsu Research Sub, it outperformed the big Velodyne. I know they make one now that goes down to 15 Hz. Great value for the money as are Paradigm, and Sunfire. I guess most of us are talking about realistic priced subwoofers, and not really answering your question. If someone wants to spend $15,000 on a speaker, I couldn't suggest one.
  • The best Velodyne is likely the best due to its servo feedback loop giving vanishingly lower distortion. The better units include DSP equalization to flatten the response in the room too, giving very neutral tonality.
  • Check out the JL Fathom F113 and the SVS PB13-Ultra. Also of interest would be the Velodyne DD series (somewhat older, kind of overpriced), and the top-of-the-line Paradigm Signature Series servo subwoofers. I have heard them all, and I can say that the Fathom and SVS are definitely the power hitters in both quantity and quality of deep subsonic bass. They literally take your breath away.
