  • These two instruments are totally different! I'd say the biggest difference is that the upright bass (or double bass) is played with a bow; it can also be plucked. The bass guitar is held like a guitar and played similar to a guitar. (although bass guitars are not strumed, they are plucked with usually the fingertips) Generally you can see upright basses being played in a good sized orchestra. Whereas the bass guitar is an instrument of choice for almost any modern band. The bass guitar is also usually amplified--- (though there are also acoustic bass guitars) Heres a quick description of each. you can see all the differences in these paragraphs also: The double bass is the largest and lowest pitched bowed string instrument used in the modern symphony orchestra. The double bass is often erroneously considered to be a member of the violin family of string instruments, even sometimes being referred to as "bass violin." It is used extensively in Western classical music as a standard member of the string section of symphony orchestras and smaller string ensembles. In addition to its use in classical music, it has been widely used in other genres such as jazz, blues, rock and roll, rockabilly, and bluegrass. A electric bass guitar (also called an electric bass, or simply a bass) is an electric string instrument similar in appearance to an electric guitar, but with a larger body, commonly four strings, a longer scale neck and tuned an octave lower in pitch than a guitar. The instrument is a variant of the electric guitar, and is used to play the low notes in many types of music. Since the 1950s it has largely replaced the double bass in popular music, no doubt because the electric bass is easier to amplify, record, and transport than its predecessor. Nonetheless, the double bass is still used in some types of music such as jazz, bluegrass, rockabilly, traditional blues, some genres of rock and, classical music. Electric basses may be fretted or fretless, although fretted basses are far more common in most popular music settings. Fretless basses, which produce a distinctive and expressive tone similar to a double bass, are more common in jazz-fusion music. wikipedia info
  • humm IDK! lol! j/k put em side by side and see...nah, I am being sarcastic...sorry... I never tried an upright bass, but I do know that it sounds more deeper and richer. My boyfriend said he tried to play one once (he is a bassist too) and he said it is hard to play!
  • Seems to me you are asking wayyyyyy too many questions. There are easier ways to get points......
  • Approximately, a 90 degree angle, and whether you play with a pick or your fingers. (It's hard to "pick" an upright)
