I'm no expert here, but I've never heard of that. I thought the flea shampoo just killed the fleas, and they were then just rinsed out with the water. I could, of course, be wrong.

I've used Dawn dish detergent. 2 parts Dawn/ one part water. Suds the dog up (head first to tail) and let it sit for a few mins while massaging the dog. Rinse and watch the fleas drop off dead. Of course this does not continue to kill flea eggs that hatch later.

Yes, they do. Almost any chemical can be absorbed into the skin a little and some can go even further than that, right into your bloodstream, like some hair dyes. Pesticides are meant to be absorbed, like into plants or animals to work. That is why when you use those flea repellent drops, it lasts so long. It goes INTO the dog.
