Help answer this question below.
The answer to your question is totally subjective. It is a fact that LCDs in their current state of technology cannot refresh the screen as fast as a regular CRT, but LCD refresh limitations are steadily being overcome. I have seen games that I thought looked good on an LCD and someone else did not, and vice versa. You know what you do and do not like. Go check out a few LCD screens and decide for yourself.
The answer to this question will change almost monthly, as this technology improves and matures. I have read (so this is not from experience) that LCD monitors having 25ms refresh rate or worse (higher number), will not be suitable for the discerning gamer. I have seen recommendations for LCD monitors with a rate of 20ms or better. If you are very fussy about the quality of your gaming experience on an LCD monitor, I would tell you to watch and wait. Over the next year, you can expect prices to fall, monitors to get faster and quality to improve. I guess it just depends on how patient you are.
But the bottom line as was mentioned above is - does it look good to you? Then never mind what the specs say or what other people say.
LCDs can be great for gaming but you need to look for several things.
1. Contrast Ratio: This is basically how vivid the screen will apear. The higher the better. 800:1 is great.
2. Reponse Time: The smaller the number the better. If you have a slow response time you'll notice alot of ghosting.
3. Native Resolution: The native resolution of an LCD refers to how many physical pixels the screen is made up of. So a monitor with a native resolution of 1024 x 768 is 1024 pixels wide by 768 pixels tall, and will look its absolute best when run at this resolution. If you run that monitor at a different resolution it will interpolate the pixels and it wont look as good. This also is something to look at versus your video card. For instance, if you have a lower end video card and an LCD with a 1600 x 1200 native resolution, you will have a hard time running most games at the native resolultion, thus it wont look as good.
