It is shredded and some is incinerated (burned) and some is sold in gift shops at the Federal Reserve buildings that print it.

Here in the United States when money becomes too old to be used anymore it is taken out of circulation. It is then sent to I believe one of the Federal Reserve banks where it is shredded. Never heard of it being given away.

It is shreaded in the US. I have seen containers with values from 100.00 to 1,000,000.00 of shreaded money that you can buy for a few dollars..
