Does the qur'an really suggest that?

Here we go again...

Whoa! I'm way out of my limits here. Niether a historian or a believer and I haven't read either the koran or the bible. You're on your own babes.

You state "historical" evidence. I'm leery of using the term "historical" in regard to any religious document. But in answer to your question, there are some Gnostic texts which state this, one of which depicts Jesus, himself, saying that it was not him. I'm sorry some idiot felt it necessary to downrate you (they probably will do the same to me ;)) but I rated you back up as best I could. It's an interesting and valid question. For all their talk, anyone who was as strong in their "faith" as many of these folks claim they are would not have felt the need to stoop to that.

It is possible to present a very credible argument, based on evidence from the Bible itself, that Jesus did not die on the cross. If one believes the argument of those that say that anyone who was ever put on the cross definitely died on the cross, then one can extend the first argument to say that in that case it was not Jesus who was put on the cross. Jesus himself foretold that he would not die on the cross when he said “For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” That is in Matthew 12:40. Things will get clearer if you follow the thread from there. But you have to be objective and if you’ve had previous indoctrination on the matter that might be very difficult to do. First go to the Book of Jonah and satisfy yourself from it that Jonah was ALIVE throughout his stay in the whale’s belly and you’ll see what Jesus is predicting about his stay in the tomb. With that in mind read the whole story again as it unfolds from the crucifixion onwards. You might see that despite the attempt to write the story to fit the redemption theory a different picture is still discernible. Watch out for the signposts. Here are just a few: Resurrected bodies are not physical, they are spiritual. The shroud had been unwound – no need for a spiritual body. The stone was removed from the mouth of tomb to let Jesus out – not necessary for a spiritual body. Mary came to anoint the body in the tomb – she would not want to anoint a rotting body. Mary is looking for ‘him’ (a person) not an ‘it’ (a corpse) Mary wanted to take ‘him’ with her not to carry away a dead body with her. He was disguised as a gardener. Spirits cannot be put to death and there would be no need for a disguise. There are many more signposts if you look with fresh eyes.
