  • Nope. It's up to the states. The 3 states that currently require it are Indiana, Georgia, and Florida, but the law is still being challenged. Georgia successfully passed the law, but it was then overturned as being unconstitutional and an 'unnecessary burden'. Based on the latest news, though, it looks like it's back on the books again. The debate in Indiana is currently raging and the law was recently upheld in court. Congress is currently considering making it a National law, however, so we'll have to see what happens. It has already failed to pass the Senate once, in the past. Currently, in most states, you can show a photo ID, or any other number of things to prove who you are, such as a current utility bill, a bank statement, etc. Pretty much anything that shows your name and address on it will do. Requirements vary from state to state. I just ran across this recent article that gives the lowdown on the whole situation:   http://www.usatoday.com/news/politics/election2008/2007-12-23-voterid_N.htm?csp=34   mac, I just gave this answer on the comment thread of another of your answers before I saw this question, so I just transferred it over here. :)
