  • Most serpentine belts do not have provision for adjustment. Instead, they are kept under tension by a spring-loaded tensioner pulley. If the belt is slipping/squealing, then it is likely that the tensioner has failed. http://autorepair.about.com/library/weekly/aa071205b.htm
  • There are two belts if you have AC. They are under covers on the front of the engine. Remove the covers. On the alternator there is a tensioner. Loosen the locking bolt (the one in the middle and adjust the tension by turning the long bolt. Tighten the lock bolt when done. There is a similar tensioner on the AC Idler pully.
