The best way to determine the value of a gemstone is to have it appraised by two or three experts. By getting multiple opinions, you can get a more accurate idea as to its value. While your at it, you should get at least one of them to fill out an appraisal sheet on the stone. This will give you a detailed description of the gemstone that will include specifics on the four C's for that stone. You will then be able to use this as proof of ownership of the stone should something happen to it.
