Help answer this question below.
It sounds like compression or entrapment of your ulnar nerve. It affects the nerves to the little finger and to the ring finger. It can happen in the back of your elbow or higher up near your collarbone. The collarbone area is where it gets to me. My husband is a massage therapist and he will work on the front of my chest doing deep tissue along the collarbone and towards my arm at the bottom of the shoulder and also the area above my elbow with some pressure points. Do you sleep with your arm curled up, elbow tight? That is when I find I wake up and my fingers are numb. I try to keep my arm straight when I sleep and not prop it up when driving a car. There are a few exercises you can try too if those things don't work.
I had the same problem when i was pregnant, it was diagnosed as carpal tunnel syndrome and i wore wrist supports to bed, it did help a bit but a couple of months after i had my daughter it cleared up.. sounds similar chocolate monster. Have you seen the doc yet??
Well carpal tunnel is one reason, it could be your circulation, it could be a pinched nerve in your back nor neck and there are other possible reasons. I would suggest that you go to the doctors. Don't ignore this.
Here's a website that can give you some answers:

I had the same problem years ago when I worked for the Post Office.
Some kind of interferrance with nerves. It could be damage in many places; carpal tunnel syndrome, pinched nerves in your upper back, etc. Go see a doctor. If left untreated it may become permanent.
Hi choccy, Try Carpal tunnel syndrome, it's where the nerve passes through a wrist bone and gets mild damage causing numbness. Constant pc users suffer from it, but ask a doc I may be wrong :o)

Thats interesting....yes i do sleep with my arms curled up...(i suck my thumb sometimes but don't tell anyone tho cos Im 37 <winks>) my arms are normally straight when I wake tho. I have also been fairly inactive for the last year due to a back injury...but I intend to get much more active in the new year. can you recommend any good websites with some excercise to help me out with this problem?

Well I found two sites that have some exercises. I've done the ones on the first page and the table ones on the second page or variations of those. See if they will help.

If not, find a massage therapist and have them work on you and ask them for some other exercises. They know a lot and can really help you get over it. YOu could also try something called EFT, which is really good for pain issues, especially if they come from stress or emotinal issues, even allergies.
At this website you can download a manual that will explain doing EFT on yourself.

This is how I've been getting rid of occasional flareups of my numbness. 2-3 minutes and it's gone:-) If you have any other problems, please look into EFT. It's amazing! It stops migraines in its tracks. It can get rid of pain. It can reduce swelling and stop nosebleeds. Hope some of this helps you:-)

I've save the EFT and will try it for the migraines I've been suffering - had them continuously for months and although they're being controlled with medication, I', not getting any satifation from my doctors. I'll try this, thanks!

Here is a link to a lady using EFT for her migraines. This does work for me. Sometimes I have to repeat it twice but it usually make sit so I can go about my daily chores. Give it a try....you don't have anything to lose. But still read up on more than just the basics of EFT. Try to learn the Gamut 9 too.
