I love this song:
I'd have to put Michael Crawford's "The Music of the Night" from Phantom of the Opera right up there.
• "Molasses to Rum" from 1776 (Sherman Edwards)
• "Is Anybody There?" from 1776 (Sherman Edwards)
• "To Make Us Proud" from 1600 PENNSYLVANIA AVENUE (Leonard Bernstein and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "There's Always One You Can't Forget" from DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER (Charles Strouse and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "A Woman Who Thinks I'm Wonderful" from DANCE A LITTLE CLOSER (Charles Strouse and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "In the Broken Promise Land of Fifteen" from LOLITA, MY LOVE (John Barry and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "A Puzzlement" from THE KING & I (Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, II)
• "Tchaikovsky and Other Russians" from LADY IN THE DARK (Kurt Weill and Ira Gershwin)
• "Johnny's Song" from JOHNNY JOHNSON (Kurt Weill and Paul Green)
• "Till Good Luck Comes My Way" from SHOW BOAT (Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein, II)
• "She Loves Me" from SHE LOVES ME (Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick)
• "Perspective" from SHE LOVES ME (Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick)
• "Grand Knowing You" from SHE LOVES ME (Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick)
• "Were Thine That Special Face" from KISS ME, KATE (Cole Porter)
• "Where is the Life That Late I Led?" from KISS ME, KATE (Cole Porter)
• "They Couldn't Compare to You" from OUT OF THIS WORLD (Cole Porter)
• "Epiphany" from SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET (Stephen Sondheim)
• "This is the Life" from LOVE LIFE (Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "Love Song" from LOVE LIFE (Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "I've Grown Accustomed to Her Face" from MY FAIR LADY (Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "I Wonder What the King is Doing Tonight?" from CAMELOT (Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "C'est Moi" from CAMELOT (Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "If Ever I Would Leave You" from CAMELOT (Frederick Loewe and Alan Jay Lerner)
• "Finishing the Hat" from SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (Stephen Sondheim)
• "Lost in the Stars" from LOST IN THE STARS (Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson)
• "Soliloquy: O Tixo, Tixo, Help Me" from LOST IN THE STARS (Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson)
• "September Song" from KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY (Kurt Weill and Maxwell Anderson)
• "I Don't Remember You" from THE HAPPY TIME (John Kander and Fred Ebb)
• "Sometimes a Day Goes By" from WOMAN OF THE YEAR (John Kander and Fred Ebb)
• "She's a Woman" from KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN (John Kander and Fred Ebb)
• "The Day After That" from KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN (John Kander and Fred Ebb)
It think that "Who am I" and "Javert's Suicide" are both powerfully emotional from Les Mis. If you want something more humorous though "Master of the House" is my personal favorite.
"Soliloquy" from Carousel
"Being Alive" from Company
Those two jumped to mind immediately.
Hands down BRING HIM HOME from Les Miserable. (And i'm not a big Les Mis fan). If you get the right person to sing it, it should bring you to tears musically.

As much as I love G&S (and that song in particular), I wouldn't really count any of their operettas as "Broadway shows," you know?

I know. But it's still a great solo.

And if you can pull it off would be a great audition piece for any musical.
