Well The Beatles are one of the very best bands ever of course. But, people still have individual tastes and so not everyone is going to think they are great. I think with them as with any band, how good they are really depends on how much drugs you take while listening to them. And, Pink Floyd and The Beatles seem to be the Kings of spiritual rock. I would personally vote for Rush as third.

Interesting article. I agree that he did some masterful works with some moving themes. Such things can touch one's soul so I guess I can understand their point of view. I welcome inspiration from most any source.

I think any great, well-written music transcends religion. Music is very spirtual, and Lennon's music was that. But only good music. Not Britney Spears!

I haven't read the article yet, which I have bookmarked, but it would certainly seem so. At least, this is certainly true for "Imagine". It is the song that is most used, played, covered and quoted in relation to certain would issues and events, from what I can tell. So much so that I have even gotten a bit tired of it myself. Just yesterday, Christimas, I must have hear it at least 2 or 3 times on the radio and TV. I also hear, at least as many times "And so this is Christmas". And, as you know, I don't even live in an English speaking country! Proof that these songs certainly transcend language barriers, if they are popular even in countries that have a "vague" idea of what the songs actually say. I can't wait to read the article. Thanks!

yes, "Imagine" does transend religion. I enjoy listening to these songs, and it lets you reflect on what he is saying. We need more people to write meaningful songs like john lennon did.

I grew up with the Beatles as well....one of my favorite bands of the 60s. Lennon/McCartney were a brilliant couple of songwriters. Lennon's music, indeed, speaks to many of us, and does indeed transcend religion. "Imagine" is probably my favorite of his songs.

Imagine sucked

I believed that John Lennon was the musical poet of the last half century.

I am a huge beatle fan ...grew up listening to them and saw them in 1963(on my dads shoulders) and I have to say I disagree with that article ...I think george wrote better songs than john(solo career)
