I smile at everyone I make eye contact with. I am perpetually happy- or at least I pretend to be. Probably about two hours ago when I was out shopping I smiled at plenty of strangers.

Just today. Most times they smile first as a male never knows how his smiles are to be inferred. Unless someone does a nice gesture toward me, driving, holding a door, picking something up that I dropped and handing it to me....I generally keep walking and minding my own business.

I smile at everyone who passes me whether they make eye contact or not. Oddly, people try to avoid eye contact. Honestly, Is it gonna kill you to smile at another human being for a second?

Tonight in the checkout line at the grocery store. It seemed that most people were rushed, frazzled, it was late, windy and raining outside. Nine out of ten people who I smiled at, smiled back.

tonight...our waitress was having a tough day so we smiled, wished her a wonederful holiday and Christmas and add extra to her tip.

Even if I'm not in a real up mood I try to smile and acknowledge other people with a brief hello or something. I live in a small city and it's a pretty commonplace thing to do. When I lived in London the first thing I noticed was the way people avoided eye contact, even in close spaces like the tube. It took me ages to get used to it.

Today when I went out to eat, I'm always polite to the waitstaff unless they get rude with me.

All the time, when im Jogging i make a point to say hello to al the joggers who i pass, they are very friendly. and if im just walking up the street i smile at strangers if we make eye contact.

That would have to be the day before I moved to New York City. Smiling and/or eye contact is usually what preceeds a mugging and/or attack of the mutant crackhead here.

Well actually today. i do this because of an experiment i once did after reading an artical in an magerzine. it said in the artical to smile and say hello to the first person you meet in the morning and see what reaction you get. So thats what i did and it so happened to be the dustbin men, as i was walking past i smiled and said hello, one said hello then his mate then the one working on the other side of the road and last but not least the one driving the dust truck stuck his head out of the truck and said hello. From just one hello, and it was a real good feeling. so now i alway say smile and say hello to people i pass, and most people will reply with a hello and a little smile.
