because volcanos aren't errupting all the time. cars are in use all the time
-
the greater question is this: why are you pushing your responsibility for environmental quality onto a volcanoe? that is so bush league.
-
Because it might be the one that breaks the camel's back.
-
Because volcanoes are a natural thing, your car is not!
-
As of 2002 there were 560 million personal cars worldwide. Each one of them (using statistics from america) releases 5 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually. The volcanos, combined, releases about 200 million tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. Our cars then, applies approx 10 times the pressure on the planet that it has recieved up until. That's why you should worry about your car. Note that this does not include motorcycles, busses, airplanes or any other veichles that is not a "personal car".

If you've got a car I hope you don't also own cows.

People die of natural causes, so why do we need laws against murder?
-
You shouldn't. I don't. While we do need environmental laws...they have taken it too far. Driving our jobs over seas to China and India. People say "Earth First". Well fuck that...I say me first.

With logic like that, it's no wonder we're about to start morphing into fish-like creatures (Joke people...). Why add to it, when we can try and save as much as we can. Think of it this way: if one person throws an apple core on the ground, that doesn't seem like a big deal. But if everyone throws an apple core on the ground there'd be so much stuff on the ground, we'd all bury ourselves alive. The volcano is like a small group of people- not REALLY that big of a deal. But if we all add our own toxins then it's like swimming in apple cores- got it?
-
No one can stop volcanic emissions, but every person has the choice to use resources in a responsible way, or a reckless way. Those who choose wisely will be given more. Those who act foolishly will lose what little they have.

Because the earth has been volcanically active for eons and getting on just fine, so obviously, the planet is equipped to handle its own natural emissions without much trouble. In fact, Global Warming is a natural phenomenon, it's just being accelerated drastically by all the carbon emissions we humans are putting out. Also, from a purely health-conscious perspective, volcanoes are usually erupting in relatively unpopulated areas such as the sea floor, whereas the emissions produced by human activity are, almost by definition, in very close proximity to people. And even if the emissions put out by automobiles were even remotely comparable to natural volcanic emissions, there's a reason why an eruption is classified as a Natural *Disaster*. The effects of a volcanic eruption, natural or not, are just as deadly to people in the immediate area as any other venting of toxic vapors, so if anything, trying to compare cars to volcanoes is a decent arugment *Against* automobiles.

What makes me so mad is I need to change all my light bulbs and toilets and water on Odd day only, then hundreds of condos are built on the vacant lot next door. Does that make any sense?
