I always read the book before I see the movie. I refused to see the Lord of the Rings movies, in particular, before I read the books. I've just started watching them, and it's so much better to have read the full, wonderful text. It gives me some backstory and helps me to understand what has been changed and why.

Yes, in fact, I always do try to read the original book, because seeing the movie beforehand could completely ruin my perception of the story. I want to have the whole story in my head, just the way I like it, before seeing it. The book's always better. If I already saw the movie, then I would probably go and try to find the book, because I would be incredibly curious as to what the story really was all about. I wouldn't forget to read it, because it'll get written down and (eventually) checked out of the library.

Yes I do. I loved the book "The Shipping News" and I am so glad i read it, because the movie was shite. It is true that if I see a movie first, that I rarely bother to read the book.

I would much rather read the book first. I like to create the characters in my own mind first before Hollywood ruins it for me. ;-)
