Why do people squint their eyes when they can't see? Wouldn't that just make it less space to see out of?

    Because it changes the focal length and size of your 'lens' your eyes when you do that.

    it's something to do with the way light enters the eye and hitting different points in the back so you get unfocused images...

    It helps you focus, and if it's bright, it helps lessen the light let into the eye.
