  • Generally, the movie theaters around here don't let you bring food into them, so they jack the prices up on their food because its technically the only food you can have, and it rakes in more money! Its really expensive though.
  • because it is the major source of profit for them. Because production costs and actors/actresses salaries has gone through the roof, the cost of purchasing viewing rights has followed suit.
  • because there greedy ... and they know that if you have kids they have you by the short and curlies....lol in Australia they tried to ban you from taking your own food into them ...lol it lasted a week until the public out cry forced them to back down with there tail between there legs ... even the politicians got into the act ...and it told them very clearly big business doesn't rule everything not like it does in other countries

  • Oh god. b/c at the theater when I'm drinking and get drunk i get the munchies and will be dumb enough to buy food :)

  • They make virtually no money from the box office. That just covers the cost of leasing the film. They make almost all of their profit from the food.
  • Because that is what they actually make money from. Half the ticket costs go to the film maker. But the cost of popcorn, soda and so on are negligible, so they get to keep much more of the money. From their point of view, the films are mostly bait to get people to the concession stands.
  • Because they make no money on you sitting in that seat after paying for it. Their money is made from all that overpriced food which is why they don't allow you to bring in your own.
