I wouldn't want to name my child after any celebrity figure. I would want them to be themselves, and naming them after a favorite sports or movie star is strange to me. I would want to raise an individual, and naming them after someone famous would be a bad start. Just my opinion, though!

A friend of mine named his boy after Brodie Croyle, QB for the U of Alabama. If you do name them after someone famous, make sure that person is dead. Then they can't do anything to taint the name. What if Payton Manning gets caught with child porn or has four girls locked up in his basement, then what? Think of all the Austrians who named their children Adolf... You just don't see many Adolfs around do you?

I think it is a little extreme, but I also know kids named Ryne after Ryne Sandburg, and a ton of Addison's since Wrigley Field is on the corner of Addison and Clark. I even know of one family that has an Addison and a Clark. My In-laws named all three of their boys after a celebrities Bryan Keith, Alan Ladd and Cary Grant. So...while I think it is a bit much, it does happen all over.
