I have a PS2 game called Dark Cloud 2. The game has worked perfectly up until a certain point in the game. It sort of...freezes on a black screen. There is no 'disk error' message or anything. Is it something I'm doing wrong, or is it the disk?

Try using a Lens cleaner on your PS2 first. You may have to run it quite a few times. After that, it sounds like it's probably your disc. See if you can get a machine to resurface it, or send it to be professionally resurfaced. If the disc doesn't have any scratches at all, then you might have a DRE problem with your PS2. There's many guides that tell you how to fix this problem, and you can Google for them. The Lens Cleaner method is one way, but it is a very temporary fix. In the least case scenario, you have a bum disc, which you would need to take up with where you bought it from.
