  • In my opinion, when a child turns 18, they can then stay out as long as they want. But midnight seems like a reasonable curfew on the weekend for a child age 16-18, since that is when many begin to date. I also think 9 or 10pm on the weekend for kids 13-15 is acceptable, and 12 and under should be home by supper time. Mind you, this is only my opinion, and it certainly depends on the activity involved and who is with the child.
  • I think my parents did a pretty good job in this respect. My curfew was midnight on the weekends from the time I was 16, even when I WAS 18. The exception to this was if I had been drinking, in which case my parents stipulated that I either get a ride home from someone who wasn't drinking, have them come get me, or just stay there and be home by noon the next day. Their reasonable rules in regards to alcohol led me to become a responsible drinker, even in the Navy.
