  • Stomach pain and diarrhea are side effects of erythromycin. You will need to see your doctor for some other antibiotics that your body can better tolerate. A skin sore that resists healing may indicate infection by antibiotic-resistant bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This can have very serious consequences if not treated early. Your skin sore needs to be cultured for this kind of bacteria. Mention this to your doctor.
  • I agree with supersize..in the meantime you might try taking them with milk to coat your stomach. Buttermilk is the best but most people don't like it.
  • Eat food when you are taking it. I can not take it...it makes me very sick to my stomach. You may not be able to take it either. Try taking it with food and see if it helps. If it does not help call the doctor and have him give you something else.
  • Yes, there are alternatives to erythromycin. Just call your doctor. Usually they will call in another antibiotic to your pharmacy without you having to come back in. My daughter cannot take it for the same reason.
  • This sounds REALLY weird but it worked! I hate taking medication and my doctor knows this. When I had a skin sore he actually told me instead of an antibiotic which he knew I didn't want to take, he told me to buy fresh papaya, slice it up and lay it on the sore. He also told me it was good to throw it in the blender and make a pulpy-juice that I could rub over the sore. Apparently there's something in the papaya that promotes healing and kills the bacteria. Papaya juice is also good for scars after surgery. I thought he was crazy at first but I did use the papaya and the sore healed within days and I had no side affects.
  • Man, I am on the same ones right now, and I have decided to stop and get some new ones because they make me so sick, I even get like chest pains, and its like my chest is on fire, its not fun, I feel your pain :)
