I think it depends if you can afford it or not. If you have extra cash...sure buy away.

Yes. If you buy them you *will* lose. If it is a charity lottery, why not give the money straight to the charity. The justification for this sort of gambling is that yo are buying "fun" with the money you lose. While I ca believe that playing poker can be fun, and may be worth some of the money lost, I rally cannot see that the fun of buying a lottery ticket justifies the cost. But them that may be me just being a sourpuss.

You can always save all your losing tickets and make wallpaper out of them.

Lottery tickets are referred to as the "idiot tax" in Texas. Call me an idiot, as I buy one occasionally. I do not buy them for every drawing, far from it. It's just a dream and I know the odds are better to be struck by lighting but for some reason I still want to take the chance once in a while.

In our state the lottery dollars go into an educational fund. So no on that count. Besides it is fun.

They would be for me. 2 reasons: I was born on Friday the 13th, and I have the luck to prove it. And because I have no desire to have that much money anyway.

I think it depends on how you approach it. I knew someone who bought tickets every week! Thats a lot of cash in ones lifetime. However my wife and I will go out maybe once a year and buy a couple of tickets from differen't states. We do it for fun. We visit usually three of four states. Eat at a differen't one as we travel. Take in the sites and as we head home we scratch them off. Sometimes it pays for the trip, sometimes it doesn.t Every time it's fun.

If you spend significant money on either, then yes. If you buy a ticket a week, then no. The way I figure it, it you're meant to win, you'll win by buying one ticket...no need to buy copious amounts. You're more likely to struck by lightning...twice...in the same day...than you are to win the lottery. But hey, someone's got to win.
