  • Yes we should. So much of our cultural and architectural heritage has been lost in the rush to modernization. Some true gems have been lost to "progress" and development. Thankfully, I think, more people are becoming aware of the need to preserve these buildings.
  • Yes I do think we should save them. I find new buildings to be very bland and boring. I love Georgian and Victorian architecture, There is an artistic quality to 19th and early 20th century architecture that new buildings simply don't have. To me new architecture is just bland vanilla boring stainless steel and glass, No character or romance just strictly utilitarian and blah.
  • Well now I'm kind of bummed Mike. You got me curious so I looked up the place where I used to eat. Yes it is gone now. I used to go there just for the atmosphere. It's borderline criminal to tear places like this down in my opinion.
  • Oh man. That Sucks! People have no regard for true beauty and character. Here's a few pics of a place that met the wrecking ball last year. It was one of the greatest examples of American Gothic Revival architecture. Now it's been demolished for to build cookie cutter condos.
  • This question brings to mind a related issue...here, check it out.. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601088&sid=a4BOhsJzfYeU&refer=muse yes, I think we should save our old structures...i can't stand new, sterile structures with no character.
  • There is a high school in our town and they just closed it about 5 years ago. It is Gothic Revival and they are using the same argument that it would cost too much to rehab it. the building was still being used 5 years ago. it can't be THAT outdated. He are a small town and that building has been the subject of a LOT of heated debate in the town council and in the local paper. I belive greed is the prime motivator in this case as well. Sad.
