Would i be wrong in thinking it sounds like you might be having some noise issues with our winged friends here?

There is no real hard and fast rule to this, each airport is different with different obstacles, noise abatement procedures etc, as a rule airliners take a 3 degree glideslope when approaching the runway as a good tradeoff between speed/descent although some would say a 3.2 degree would be better for the sleeping residents under the flightpath!

For instance at Kai Tak the airliners had to thread their way through buildings, mountains, hills etc so that was a great deal different to say St. Martin airport in the caribbean where they approach over the sea and beach at almost no height at all!

However sometimes a visiting aircraft just screws up the whole approach procedure and ends up getting the airport lots of angry phone calls from the local people!
